Description of Event:
At this event, we review the work of great
Iranian composers and influential musicians over the period of ca. 1850-1900 and we play samples of their work in
an ensemble. We initially examine what we know about the evolution of Iranian/Persian art music over centuries and millennia.
Then we get to the targetted era and examine the work of these composers and influential musicians from the political
and musicological perspectives. We hope that, at this event, you enjoy listening to samples of Iranian music composed
over 100 years ago and learn about Iranian Music (character, history, identity, modernization, evolution, etc.). Tickets ($25
general admission; $20 students) should be purchased from King of Sweets, Dates and Bakery (21-9312 34th Ave) by 5 pm
on Saturday Oct. 1st. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door (sorry)! Thanks for your understanding.
There is a change of plan. Unfortunately, the two musicians from Montreal will not be joining us this time. We are using a
number of talented local musicians for the performance part instead. The seminar part will not be affected by this change
